Beginning Dance
On Your Feet
We believe we've got the best beginning dance classes in the business. Most studios hire young, inexperienced teachers for their tots. . . not at Corner Dance! We've got seasoned teachers that are experienced and love to teach the little ones. We teach tots Combo classes (ballet, tap, and jazz), as well as hip-hop (with a great mix of boys and girls), and tumbling.
Combo 1 & 2
Combo 1 & 2 is designed for children 3-5 yrs. Combo classes are a great way for students to experience the beginning fundamentals of ballet, jazz, and tap. Dancers will gain flexibility, basic technique, and self confidence through repetitive motor skill, coordination, and rhythm practice. Each combo class will perform two dances in Corner Dance Studio’s end-of-year recital. The main focus of these classes is on students having fun and enjoying dance as an everyday activity. Each level is based on the age and skill level of each student, and the classes are formatted to build upon the technique of the previous class. As always, our teachers aim to help each student feel confident, loved, and safe in the studio setting.
Ballet Adventures
Children age 3-5 will experience a joyful introduction to dance through creative movement and basic ballet steps. Students will explore movement through use of shape, color and sounds, imagination and freedom of expression. Development of large motor skills, coordination, and flexibility will prepare students for future dance classes. *Each class will include a weekly theme, story time and adjoining activity. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital.
Tot Hip-Hop & Tumbling
Children age 3-5 will love this class that brings hip hop and tumbling together in a fun and interactive way. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital.
Beginning Tumbling 1
Students will focus on building strength and coordination in order to perform the basics of tumbling. In Tumbling 1 we'll learn hand stands, back bends, forward rolls and variations, and cartwheels.
Beginning Tumbling 2
Pre Reqs: Students should be able to complete skills worked on in Tumbling 1 (cartwheels, handstands, backbends, forward rolls, dive rolls, backward rolls, and elbow stands). Students in Tumbling 2 will master both side cartwheels, round offs, elbow cartwheels, front walkovers, back walkovers, beginning aerials, and beginning acrobatics.
Hip-Hop 1
Children age 5-7 will love this class that brings hip-hop to their level. We teach all of the basic dance skills like keeping rhythm, following choreography and developing body control, as well as performance skills such as stage presence, taught through kid-friendly Hip-Hop. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital.
Hip-Hop 2
This class is designed for kids 8-10 yrs old and requires little to no knowledge of Hip-Hop. We will learn how to "find your groove" and have fun moving ourbodies! We teach all of the basic dance skills like keeping rhythm, following choreography and developing body control, as well as performance skills such as stage presence, taught through kid-friendly Hip-Hop. Students will perform a dance in the recital.
Combo 3 & 4
Combo 3 is for students 5-7 yrs and Combo 4 is for older students, 8-10 yrs. Combo classes are a great way for students to experience the beginning fundamentals of ballet, jazz, and tap. Dancers will review basic ballet positions, 1st-6th. They will incorporate both barre and center combinations to improve technique as well as learn new terminology and use proper body positions and posture. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital. This class is open to all students; required for Esprit Company.
Ballet 6
Dancers will review basic ballet positions, 1st-6th. They will incorporate both barre and center combinations to improve technique as well as learn new terminology and use proper body positions and posture. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital. This class is open to all students; required for Etoile Company.
Turning Technique (Turns) 6
This class is designed for beginning dancers who will build off of prior knowledge to develop precision and accuracy in technical skills. Proper stretching and strengthening movements will be incorporated to improve muscle strength and coordination. They will learn how to count music, hear beats, walking, kicks, turns, basic leaps and proper arm and body alignment. This class is open to all students; required for Esprit Company.
Tap 5
​Tap 5 is an introduction to tap class. Students will learn technique, names, and choreography for tap dance. Tap 5 is required for the Esprit
Intermediate Dance
Get Up & Move
After you’ve mastered the basics, we offer great classes in specific genres that will challenge and stretch you. Those enrolled in Intermediate dance classes are looking for more out of dance and want to dance with like-minded kids who know that it’s about more than just steps and patterns. They start to appreciate all the components that need to be integrated into good dancing.
Jr Jazz
This class is for the beginner to intermediate dancer who enjoys dance and want to focus their efforts on learning Jazz, technique, and some contemporary. Juniors are ages 8-11 yrs. This class will learn beginning technique with across the floor moves including: walks, turns, piques, pirouettes, kick, jumps, and leaps. Correct body position from their head to their toes will be taught with the goal of dancing with proper technique and, in turn, learning to move without injuring themselves. Junior dancers will perform up to 2 dances at the end-of-year recital and will feature the moves/steps, technique, and choreography they learned throughout the year.
Tap 6 & 7
Dancers will review basic tap steps as well as learn new and exciting ones. They will create rhythmic patterns and learn timely beats. Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital. Tap classes are open to all students. Tap 6 is required for the Etoile team and Tap 6 is required for the Velocite team.
A basic study of ballet technique with strengthening skill and flexibility. Ballet 7 focuses on developing proper placement and alignment in barre and center technique. Students perfect fundamental barre and centre exercise with emphasis in correct articulation. Further development in traveling turns and pirouette preparation. Introduction to basic ballet terminology, port de bras, and body positions. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital. This class is open to all ballet students (age 10+); required for Velocite company.
Ballet 7
This class is designed for dancers who want to take their dance training to a higher level. We learn how to advance our turning, kicking and leaping ability while also working on flexibility and strength. Dancers must have some dance experience before taking "Turns." These classes are open to all pre-intermediate and intermediate level students. Turns 7 is required for Velocite company and Turns 8 is required for Soleil company.
Turning Technique (Turns) 7 & 8
Pre Reqs: Students should be able to complete skills worked on in Tumbling 2 (front walkovers, back walkovers, solid cartwheels, one handed cartwheels, and beginning acro work). Students in Tumbling and Acro 3 will work on front handsprings, headsprings, switch front walkovers, switch back walkovers, aerials, and intermediate acro.
Tumbling & Acro 3
Pre Reqs: Students should be able to complete skills worked on in Tumbling 2 (front walkovers, back walkovers, solid cartwheels and one handed cartwheels). In this class students will learn and practice the techniques for forward and back rolls, handstands, right and left cartwheels, elbow stands, front limber, back bends, round offs, & bridges.
Intermediate Tumbling
An intermediate class focused-on furthering technical strength and skill in pre pointe and beginning barre pointe work. Ballet 8 works on basic pointe technique. Pointe concepts and exercises are taught slowly, facing the barre. Later, as stability and strength improve, similar exercises are executed in the center. Students have knowledge in basic ballet terminology and port de bra, with development in epaulement. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital. This class is open to all intermediate ballet sudents; required for Soleil company.
Ballet 8
In this class dancers will develop more tap tricks that require extensive foundational skills. They will work on wings, pullbacks, and more advanced tap skills. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital. This tap class is open to all students 12+ yrs old.
Tap 8
Contemporary (Soleil)
In this intermediate class dancers will incorporate technique from jazz, lyrical, and ballet to discover new ways to move through improvisation and musicality. They will find ways to connect the mind and body through movement. Students will perform a dance in the end-of-year recital. This class is required for Soleil company.
This class is for students 12+ (with exceptions for students based on appropriate skill level). Students should be proficient in the basics of various street styles (breaking, popping, 90's MTV moves, etc.), freestyle concepts, and choreography. In this class, students will learn the history of hip hop as well as explore creative variations of the basics in order to unlock personal style and flavor. Students perform 2 dances in the end-of-year recital.
Intermediate Hip-Hop
Jazz (Soleil)
Jazz class focuses on style, musicality, and correct alignment. Each class includes a technical warm up to find your center and floor work for strength and injury prevention. Dancers will learn technical skills that will be incorporated into their dance routines. Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps. This class is required for Soleil Company.
This class is for the high-beginner and intermediate dancer who enjoys dance and wants to focus their efforts on learning Jazz, technique, and some contemporary. This class will learn advanced technique with across the floor moves including: walks, turns, piques, pirouettes, kick, jumps, and leaps. Senior Jazz dancers will perform up to 2 dances at the end-of-year recital and will feature the moves/steps, technique, and choreography they learned throughout the year. For ages 12+ yrs.

Advanced Dance Classes &
Performing Teams
Let’s Do It
If you have experienced dance at a competitive studio and not liked the cut-throat environment or the catty attitude, but love to dance, Corner Dance Studio is for you. If you love to dance and perform, but also want time to pursue other activities (sports, music, theater, etc.) Corner Dance is the studio for you. We offer several advanced classes as well as 5 performing companies – something for all ages – but we don’t compete. We find extra opportunities throughout the year to perform but leave the competitions behind.
An advanced study of ballet and pointe work. Ballet 9 focuses on perfecting performance, technique and artistry. Class includes complete barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor work. Students are knowledgeable in ballet terminology, with thorough understanding of proper placement/alignment and flexibility. Point work is done at barre and centre. Class emphasizes performance and artistry. All dancers placed in Ballet 9 may automatically take point if they are 12+ and have had at least two years of ballet training. Students will perform 1 or 2 dances in the end-of-year recital. Required for Ciel company.
Ballet/Point 9
Advanced Tumbling
PreReqs: Students should be able to demonstrate mastery of skills in previous tumbling levels (cartwheels, handstands, roundoffs, back and front walk overs, and aerials). In this class students will work on back handspring variations, back tuck variations, and layout variations.
Advanced Hip-Hop
Students should know how to make moves, have different dynamics, and make the moves your own. Learn the many styles, history and more advanced moves of Hip Hop. Students perform 2 dances in the end-of-year recital.
This class is designed for dancers who want to take their dance training to a higher level. We learn how to advance our turning, kicking and leaping ability while also working on flexibility and strength. Dancers must have some dance experience before taking "Turns." This class is open to all advanced level dancers. This class is required for Ciel company.

Contemporary (Ciel)
In this advanced class dancers will incorporate technique from jazz, lyrical, and ballet to discover new ways to move through improvisation and musicality. Jazz (Ciel)
This advanced Jazz class emphasizes techinque, artistry and athleticism. Focus on breaking down turns, leaps, placement, connecting movement so it flows, and building a dance vocabulary that twill bring the dancer to the next level. Each class includes a technical warmup to find your center and floor work for strength and injury prevention. Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps.
